March Muddling!

Welcome to March, everyone!

It is this game's one year anniversary! Thanks to everyone who has been here with us from the start and to those who have joined us along the way. We hope to continue the game with your help and enthusiasm!

Due to not having the energy to mod the game anymore, Ariel-mod will be stepping down. She would like to thank everyone for being so fun to mod. Gary-mod will be stepping up as head mod with Ariel-mod's guidance on the meta-plot. We will be asking for plotting mod and helper mod applications to help Gary-mod take on this new position. Last month we forgot to post the TDM. Our apologies! We will post it this month on the 15th.

Finally, the delay period for re-apping a character has been lowered to two months. We felt this time span was more appropriate to the style the game has set! Any character can now be re-applied for after two months rather than four.

Sturm

URSULA's ranged downs drones will pick up a storm front forming on the 1st and she will warn everyone to stay safe. The storm will arrive on the 3rd.

While most things will be fine, a power outage will happen midday on the 4th. Power will come back on within minutes but this will have caused a malfunction with URSULA's telepathic communicators. Telepathy will short and crew members will be left knowing how to speak only one of three languages: Kharaa, the Precursor language (limited to the vocabulary from their Rosetta Stone), and French. Comment below here to request a language rolled! You may also choose this on your own.

Note on Precursor: Crewmates stuck speaking Precursor may find themselves strangely limited. The Rosetta Stone covers things like the 1000 most common words and scientific language about Carar as well as a lot of basics. It does not have a word for 'bathtub' and characters will have to find ways to talk around this. enjoy your 'round deep clean water container.'

Note on Kharaa: The language URSULA has in her database has lots of new additions (like apples) but is missing some philosophical concepts. These are ideas of individuality, separateness or anything else that might be thought of by beings who aren't a hive mind. They do have a lot of different kinds of nuanced words and phrases to discuss group activities and conquest. They know a lot about bringing new genetic material into their group!

Note on French: Hon hon hon.

By the 8th the translator will be repaired and the storm will have passed by the 9th. It will be safe for characters to explore at that point. Characters will find they have an easier time learning whatever language they got stuck with during the storm.

und Drang

Lots of debris has been washed up by the storm! Like last time, characters who go out after the storm's peak on the 7th may discover things. Familiar things. The storm appears to have dragged up and scattered items from home. Characters may find two small things from home (up to the size of a person each) or one large thing (up to the size of a car). These can be anything you like, although please let us know if they are items we'd need to be aware of the powers of! Obviously, a character doesn't have to find their own stuff. You're welcome to let someone else discover your junk! Hopefully they'll be nice enough to give it back.

In addition, URSULA will have detected large debris deposits through all of the main biomes, in Main Mission. You may submit a mission request for a team of at least two people to request "help," "harm," or "surprise me!" and we will try to include something special in these debris deposits!

Stalker Troubles

Towards the ends of the month, large groups of Stalkers begin to gather around the base. By the 26th there will be more than a hundred around. They will be as friendly as ever but very demanding of food and will snap at those who don't feed them. It appears that many of their food supplies were scared off by the uncharacteristic storm! Help them out in this month's Side Mission! They can be shooed off by the end of the month if we are careful!

AC is running to the end of the month so we are not including updates with this post. We will instead post them once AC closes. As a reminder, we don't manage the player-run Subnautica discovery document as mods, but we encourage everyone to use the document for details that aren't included on the Biome and Base posts.

• RESULTS: Depending on if you ask for "help," "harm," or "surprise me!" it could be something fun!

SIDE MISSION: STALKER TROUBLES

• URSULA SAYS:"Oh dear, they look hungry, don't they? Do you think we could kill a Reaper for them?"
• REQUIREMENTS: Feed the Stalkers to keep them from biting. Help them locate a new reliable food source
• RESULTS: The Stalkers will love you and not bite everyone.

when telepathy shorts, i assume that means characters will lose their ability to speak their native languages as well?

piggybacking off that, if hinata can already speak french thanks to hope's peak having No Chill when it comes to shoving talent into his brain, would that make a difference?

Is writing affected? Can they write and read their new language but nothing else, or is that intact?

Can one of Kanaya's item's be the Empiricist's Wand? AKA the wand she made for Eridan that he then went on a hope beam rampage with, killing her with a beam of pure concentrated hope. The wand itself is useless though, he just believed it into something powerful. Maybe she'll see if Jake could use it or just give it to Komaeda as an gift.

Also would the Wardrobifier be too big to count as one item? You really only need the slab that's attached to the wardrobe, so she'll just take that. If not I'll just take a Jade colored Cruxite dowel as her second item.

DIRK will be speaking Kharaa. he'll be annoyed by the power outage and telepathy issue try to fix it! which obv i guess he'll fail but maybe he'll learn things.

- anyone want to do some debris hunting with? would be happy to do any of the options although dirk is particularly prone to finding "harm" because his luck sucks
- he will. want to help the stalkers but have no idea how?? HE WANTS TO BROS BUT HOW. HOW.
- i'm not sure what dumb things from homestuck... maybe unreal air ??? anyway dumb homestuck garbage is on the table for finding.

ZELDA will be speaking Precursor and apparently has a girls' night out reaper hunting for the end of the month?? and having bath bombs and luxury time in the hot springs. that's reasonable. during the storm she'll be super worried about her Loftwing and will bring him indoors so enjoy having a giant bird literally in the base.

- also would love to do debris hunting with someone! definitely up for any options
- she will also be trying to encourage more healing of planet scarring once storm has passed
- does anyone want to find cool fire-resistant earrings or clawshots?

karkat is speaking french (HON HON Hokay i'll stop)!! i don't have a lot of plans?? he's building a pen for the treemus on the base island with mikleo and jade. and he and jade are going to like, try to help the treemus breed since they're basically the last two remaining ones of an extinct species?? I WANNA DO DEBRIS CLEANUP

hajime is going to speak precursor language and also will help the stalkers. i also wanna do debris cleanup for her?? she's also doing ladies night sometime that will consists of reaper wrestling and it's gonna be a blast

izetta is also speaking french and she's helping with fixing the scarring of the planet. i seriously have like no plans when do i ever have plans

Kanaya will be highly frustrated by the limited speech pattern Precursor gives her, and will go around making a list of who can speak what.

She'll put some not so great doodles of the base members next to their names so that it's useful to those who don't speak Precursor. Well, if they figure out what it's a list of. So it'll look like three columns of names with either a baguette, a khaara, or a precursor symbol drawn at the top.

She'll be mother henning all of the people speaking Precursor until the languages get back to normal.

Once that happens though, she'll try and get together a team to go check on the Monolith and see if it could be converted into a remote testing facility/whatever. Also try and kill a Reaper with a chainsaw, nbd. It's for the stalkers and blowing off pent up stress

Hotaru will be speaking Kharaa. Farrah brought up confessions when people can't understand them, and you know what, Hotaru would and then fail at it because it's a very individual and separate kind of thing LMAO... she will try though. hmu if you want failed confessions

She'll also be investigating where the purrspines came from because she found they are migrating because there are a surplus of reapers where they used to live. She will also be testing some of the limits of some of her powers as Sailor Saturn and may be fainting because of that. hmu for any of these, too. Someone, please scold her. She told a lot of people she'd be safe as possible, but she's Sailor Saturn.

She will also be helping with the Stalker situation by wrestling Reapers! It's gonna be great.

Nonon will be trying to get a better handle on things because she's so new. I would like to say she will be less prickly but she will be speaking Precursor, and she will be SO MAD because klk is all about dumb wordplay and only speaking the most common 1000 words won't let you make appropriate zingers.

She will probably be getting some instruments back. That will do nothing for her volume but it will pacify her some?? At least she is good at playing music. I think eventually, she'll look into the different components of the Song.

For as cantankerous as she is, she will help with the debris hunt, and she is at least a very capable individual.

Alex will be speaking French! She's a newbie newbie... She's got... A radio? That can pick up on the Song, the Void Song, or even sometimes??? Whispering in another language? She also doesn't have anywhere to officially be staying, yet.

She's a lot more open to DOING STUFF than... Kenma.

Kenma, though, is totally free! He has less to offer, but he doesn't want to just sit around doing nothing, so!! He'll be speaking Precursor.

A radio that can pick up the Song and Void Song? Like it can tune into its frequency at all times? Nonon would be very interested in that because it's music.

Horo will be speaking Kharaa. She'll probably be okay with this, and will do her best to adjust/help others who are trying to communicate and taking it less positively. Let her be your Kharaa counselor using lots of words about togetherness.

She will be part of the reaper wrestling girls' night spa day that'll be happening sooner or later, too! I think most of those people I've touched base with on plurk , but if anybody else wants to wrassle a reaper and then get their toes painted or something.

There's also those gun laboratories on that one Precursor base. As one of the resident gun-wielding adventurers, she'll be interested in checking those out more extensively.

Since many of the people who were taking care of the Birdog chicks are no longer here, she plans on taking over their care. Since her fox companion hunts for items, they may try training some of the chicks to fetch!

I'm not sure about the debris hunting just yet; I can probably think of some weird old-timey objects from Horo's world that could wash up, though! I don't really have any plans and am happy to be roped into somebody's more creative idea.
