URSULA has luckily decided it is no longer winter, so the base is back to its usual moderate temperatures, which means it's still a little chilly at times but you're underwater so it's to be expected!
February 15: Test Drive Meme!
Feel Good Pods
URSULA's ranged downs drones will pick up a migration on the 3rd of a species expected to arrive in these zones on the 6th. Purrspines will be moving in pods of ten to twenty this way. URSULA will inform the base that the species is harmless and even helpful to her stressed crew.
How are they helpful, you ask? URSULA is happy to explain! Their spines allow them to vibrate at frequencies that humans find relaxing much like a cat's purr. They also communicate with calming whistling noises. This won't magically cure a bad mood, but can help with stress and fear. According to URSULA's records Purrspines often use their song to calm the aggression of any territorial species they encounter in their migrations.
URSULA will not know how Purrspines act in the dreamscape but characters can investigate! They will find that Purrspines sing parts of The Song that make the dreamscape relaxing and easy to control.
The migration through the area is expected to last about two weeks. By the 20th they will be gone.
Some of the updates mentioned here have been added to the Biome and Base posts. We don't manage the player-run Subnautica discovery document as mods but we encourage everyone to use the document for details not included on the Biome and Base posts.
PRECURSORS
The base at the Lost River has been identified as a Precursor base. The Precursors are an ancient race that were highly advanced, and seem to be the cause of the Sea Dragon and the Emperor's sickness. The Precursors are still a mystery, but a translator made by Mimi before she was killed is now accessible to the base to translate any Precursor text found.
BASE
The shield generator built by Roderic has been improved! It glows bright purple because that is what URSULA wanted, and it will now guard against most projectiles. On the base island, there is also a pair of creatures called the Treemus now roaming around. The species was thought to be extinct, so please be very kind to them!
SHIAS
As everyone may have noticed, the Warpers are no longer terrorizing the base! A few crew members went and politely asked the planet make the Warpers stop, and the planet agreed. Everyone has also gathered various information about the species, such as the fact that they communicate via radio waves. It seems like when they are cut off from this signal, they become very lost. Their teleportation function works by manipulating space/time. It also seems like some barriers are able to trap them. The Warpers lack a soul, thus they cannot be found in the Dreamscape.
BIRDPARENTS
Thanks to the hard effort of various crew members, all of the birdog nests have been protected and have hatched! The hatchlings of each respective nest will most likely be very attached to whoever it was that protected them when they were in their eggs. So, expect to see more babies around base, probably.
THE PULSE
After some experimenting, new info on how the pulse works has been discovered! It appears that it can adjust its strength depending on a few factors. Currently known factors are: your current speed, your height in the atmosphere, and how long you manage to avoid getting hit by the pulse. It is possible to get close to exiting the atmosphere, but the pulse will shoot you down with a very intense ferocity at that point. For some reason, whatever effect that had temporarily disabled the power does not activate during these instances though.
Remember you're also free to explore and do whatever you wish and can ask us about your own mission objectives as well.
MAIN MISSION: ISLAND BASE
URSULA SAYS:"Since we have a base on the island now, I thought we should start making it a little more homey. Maybe it's a good time to start on a few new projects to get it up to par? I think it would be nice to have some more ways to make you feel comfortable here."
REQUIREMENTS: Just what it sounds like, URSULA wants the new base outfitted with some bells and whistles that will make everyone feel more at home!
RESULTS: The island base will be more livable!
SIDE MISSION: ALIEN ARTIFACTS
URSULA SAYS:"We still don't know much about this alien race that lived here and that does make me uncomfortable. We should research it more and see what answers we can find."

I have two questions! One is less important and the other is absolutely vital.
Less-important first: Since Karkat has the Precursor rosetta stone and the grammar lesson recordings, how long do you guesstimate it would take a fairly quick language learner to get comfortable or semi-proficient with the language? What's most of the vocabulary that would be accessible/are there any noticeable gaps?

Mission: DANCE STUDIO Characters: yuri and whoever else wants to help Details: alright so yuri wants to practice ballet while he's here, and he can't help but notice the disturbing lack of a dance studio!!! the dancefloor doesn't count, he wants something with mirrors and everything. he just doesn't really know how to go about building a new location
Mission: N Is for Anywhere and Anytime at All. (Down Here in the Deep Blue Sea!) Characters: Eve + whoever is interested! Details: The Squigglefish eggs!!! Eve will be checking on them around the clock as the hours start ticking down. She wants to make sure they're safe and sound when they hatch and keep track of their development. Eve will also ask Daniel when he and the babies would like to be returned out to the wild so she (Ada really...) can have time to find a way to 'babyproof' their home to protect them from predators. (Ada will most likely ask help from URSULA because how did this get so out of control.)
Mission: Walk Walk, Fashion Baby. Please stop me... Characters: Eve. Details: She's just going to ask URSULA for information in regards to textile engineering thanks to a conversation she had with Dirk. Specifically, she wants to know if it's possible to make clothes that can incorporate the same nanites that's being used with Ada's stealth/camouflage program. If so, how do you clothes??
Mission: "Fly" by Sugar Ray Characters: Rin & Roxy Details: Rin and Roxy are going to spend time this month making regular visits to nearby skyray nests at Aurora, trying to befriend/domesticate some to come live on the island farm and learn more about their species. They're also going to go the ray completionist route and try to befriend/domesticate/discover new things about the ghostrays in Lost River as well.
Mission: exploring the cave! not the iron man one! Characters: 2 hajimes 1 komaeda (and anyone else) Details: they are gonna check out the cave that hajime found last month and see if they can fix that door?? and see what else they can find
Mission: treebirds Characters: karkat Details: so karkat moved the two treemus aliens he found last month to the base island and he is gonna wanna try to find out stuff like what do they eat and what sort of stuff they prefer to live around etc etc and if they are a danger to other animals at the base
Mission: Rose Uses Her Powers For Dave, Again Characters: Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider sorta. Details: At Dave's suggestion, Rose will use her Seer Bullshittm to see if they should talk to the planet soul about the kharaa.
Mission: Playing Cupid Characters: Roxy Details: For Valentine's Day, Roxy is handing out Valentines (example) and chocolates to everyone on base!! She'll also be programming the drones to follow around couples playing babymaking music. For reasons, obviously.
Mission: Someday Percy will do something not involved with the sealife Characters: So yeah basically just Percy, maybe the other legs of Demisquad (Annabeth and Magnus, maybe) Details: SO Mikleo asked Percy to explore the ocean looking for any of the infected sea life to try and convince them to come to the base for help/healing/vaccination from Carar. He'll be venturing out to various biomes to sweep the area and try to communicate that they just want to help heal these creatures.
Mission: I can't believe there's alien seals Characters: Also just Percy! Details: Sorey also asked Percy to try and talk to the cute seals and ask what their favorite foods are so they can feed them. Percy's a sucker and agreed. Plus he wants to play with the seals. I'm very sorry about him. Here's hoping they're actually accepting of him on their seal island.
Mission: Conservation with Energy Characters: Izetta, Zelda, Fi Details: They'd like to work on seeing if they could pool their powers and channel or control some of the energy from the hotspots into manmade areas in order to help soothe their impact on the planet and help things grow/heal, or just to make the areas feel nicer at least. For areas where a hotspot might not be close enough to make it to the structure, Fi wants to see if she can store energy in her blade so it could be carried off and dispersed in the proper area.
Mission: Lost in Translation Characters: Fi, flying solo Details: Fi wants to attempt communication with the alien machinery and devices with her machine telepathy. She'll return to the Precursor base and attempt to "talk" with what's there, provided it's active, looking to see if some of the functions can be understood, if it talks back, or if it's too alien for her to communicate with/needs translation.

Mission: Decoding alien info Characters: SOREY AND LANGUAGE NERDS! Mikleo is a language nerd and Karkat agreed, there are other people interested too I believe! Details: They're using the alien translator to start translating the Precursor text that they've gotten from the bases they've gone to so far! They're specifically looking for items that might indicate where the Precursors went and what leads they may have had on a carar cure. They will also look to see if there is a manual for the anti-gravity elevator shaft because I mean that was cool.
Mission: Finding the Emperor and her kids Part 34963 Characters: SOREY, SANSON, MIKLEO, WHOEVER CAN FIT IN THE SUB Details: They're ON THE HUNT and putting a lot of dedicated time into this one since it's #1 priority!! They'll be diving down past the lava vents (in the sub for safety) and looking for the lava base that they suspect holds the Emperor! Sanson is helping with reconnaissance by being able to phase through walls to see if there's anything up ahead of them. They haven't done much exploration down in the lava vents so I imagine it'll take a few trips but they'll go down and explore multiple times until they have a good map of the area and/or find the base.
Mission: Scanners and Decontaminators for the base Characters: SOREY AND A LOT OF TECH PEOPLE Details: They're rounding up tech people to make scanners and decontaminators for the base areas to make sure that the Carar doesn't spread! I think they briefly spoke to URSULA about this already, it is basically just to make sure that no one gets sick again because last time was nasty.
Mission: Planet healing Characters: SOREY AND A LOT OF PEOPLE Details: This one will be a bit slow-going but Sorey and Mikleo requested for people to help clean up the metal causing the planet pain and they'll be helping out themselves when they have a spare moment too. Sorey in particular will see if purification has any effect on the crashed ships, abandoned bases, etc. in way of healing the planet, but they'll also be trying to graft coral and plantlife onto the big chunks that they can't get rid of.
Mission: The Island of Love Characters: Horō, Dirk, other Homestuck kids, anyone who wants to! All are invited and welcome to throw in their own design touches. Details: This is a group effort to give URSULA the Valentine's Day she deserves!
A team of characters will be using the terraformer to make a small, unobtrusive island with as lush a landscape as possible. Some sort of island river will flow through it, and there may even be a skimmer disguised as a swan boat? Once everything is completed, URSULA will be invited to spend a romantic friendlove evening on this mysterious new island! Flower petals, twinkling lights, heart confetti made from natural materials, and a ride down the beautiful River of Romance await! A hodgepodge of traditions will be present, and some of the touches may not be the most authentic - for example, at least one of the Valentine's greetings will ominously read "sorry for your loss" - but this was clearly an effort of love.
After VDay is complete, the island can be repurposed according to URSULA's wishes - as, perhaps, a wildlife reserve/rehab center, or maybe an island where she can exile her ships until they get along.
Mission: Island Base Characters: Kenma & erryone else around there?? Details: Kenma wants to make himself more useful than being a loaf around the main base. and he also wants to see the island. But he's got no real good ideas, so he just wants to be of general assistance to people. (moving supplies, holding stuff still, and slacking off in the shade.)
... he's also going to put up a volleyball net if there's a good spot.
Mission: Dream of Purrspines Characters: Hotaru Details: She's going to interact and try to talk to the Purrpsines in the dreamscape. Since they're migrating, she'll ask about where they're coming from, what they've seen, where they're going, etc. She'll also ask if she can record them when awake.
Mission: Astral Discoveries Characters:Hotaru Sailor Saturn Details: Hotaru wants to test the limits of her less destructive powers as Sailor Saturn, so she'll try to astral project across the planet and see how far she can go and what she can discover (underwater and above water because who needs to breathe when you're just a spiritual manifestation), if anything. The anime has shown her spiriting across Tokyo, and I'm fine with keeping her limit at the diameter of Tokyo or even less than that!
Depending on the answers to her conversation with the Purrspines, she'd want to investigate that first. She will also be keeping a keen eye for alien artifact stuff because she definitely wants to do what URSULA asks!
Mission: Astral Mapping Characters: Hotaru eletric boogaloo Details: idk if this can be counted as a mission but she'll ask URSULA if she has a map of the planetary and/or star system Iniidae is in, so she can vaguely map it out with her incredibly useful power. Sometimes, you're a nerd and you just want to know where you are in theory even if you don't know it in practice.

Characters: Takeru...'s digimon Details: Since the Iniidae crew frowns a bit at the slaughter of your enemies, it's time to practice Patamon's oft neglected less violent skills. At Perfect level he has a couple of revelant abilities: one is for straightforward healing and the other is Holy Disinfection which is geared toward fixing "status ailments". (In canon this is used to turn the kids back into humans after they've been... turned into keychains.) It's mostly the first one they'll be using, hitting up some of the islands in search of wounded wildlife to practice healing on. Then they'll see if Holy Disinfection has any effect on individual cases of Carar.
Mission: time shit Characters: Dave Details: he is going to try to backtrack to the moment john arrived (...from a distance so john doesn't see him) to figure out if he can see how the fuck arrivals happen. He has never bothered to do this before solely because it never bugged him enough until John Egbert disappeared then reappeared. I have no idea f he'll be able to notice anything or if there will be mystery consequences but either way he's trying to play time cop in a fit of pique
Mission: Radio Adventure Characters: Alex! Details: Basically since she's New and Stupid™ she wants to wander the base with her radio to see if she picks up any unusual morse code or something with it. Habit, mostly. (There could be ghosts, u never know!!!)
- Sorey and Mikleo do want to get down into the deep lava areas and start searching for the second Precursor base/research facility that's apparently somewhere down there! There's a possibility the Emperor's real world body/the Emperor's kids are hosted at that facility as well.
- More investigation into the Lost River Precursor base files now that we have a way to translate things?
- They're going to be looking into the Precursor base under Mountain Island this month since we didn't have time to fit it into January anywhere! Who else wants in, it looks like there's a lot of interesting stuff there.
- Not exactly homemaking but it seems prudent to go build some kind of scanners at the base entrances now that will pick up if someone's got traces of Jelly Shroom/Carar/otherwise unidentified bacteria sitting on them from a trip out! Also something to decontaminate people if needed. This got discussed with URSULA last month but should be implemented this month.
- Since we have like five million abandoned bases and wrecks and that's hurting Iniidae in the soul they'll put a call out to do something about that! Basically dismantling the big unneeded structures/Aurora wreck pieces to use as resources for other things. If there's some places that aren't really feasible to dismantle (eg. we probably can't take apart items as big as the Monolith or the main Aurora wreck itself, and probably want to leave usefully located pit stops like the Jelly Shroom Caves base intact) then the way to go is repairing them and integrating coral/plants into their structure like the crew's done with the main base. BASICALLY A BIG ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP IS IN ORDER
- They also got the info that the planet awkwardly adopted the Warpers and that the crew really needs to hustle on doing something about the Carar infection on the planet, so they actually need people to resume tinkering with a cure, and also going out and scanning for wildlife that's infected/bringing infected specimens back to hold in the base if they can. Maybe more investigation into nudging the Warpers into more helpful efforts so they can help with that job and start to hold infected fish in the Lost River base like they used to?
Basically they need most of this stuff to be general group/crew efforts since IT'S SO MUCH. I think either Ellie or I are doing an IC post in the next few days to tell people about talking to the planet soul and what followups are needed? So if your character wants in to doing any of these things (either with Sorey and Mikleo or off on their own personal missions) there's an easy IC in for knowledge of what needs doing etc.
izetta is probably gonna help with the island base since her powers would be pretty useful for construction tbh... she's also interested in actually meeting the planet's soul? cause her powers are tied to magic and basically the planet is letting her be able to use her powers, SO SHE WANTS TO LOOK INTO THAT??? AND SAY THANK YOU???
hajime found a cave last month that is probably connected to the precursors, so she wants to go back and check it out. there's some door there that's broken so she wants to fix it!! hinata is coming along but if anyone else wants to join in to see what's up then feel free. i don't have any other plans for her besides that tho she'd be interested in the purrspines...
karkat is mostly just focusing on his own personal issues atm? he's still investigating his lil kharaa buddy and is like, taking him around with him (while in his sylladex cause he doesn't want the thing to know where... the base is located...). but yeah other than that i don't really have any plans for him so
i'll throw any of those three into any plot if people want them!! that's it byeee
yuri is interested in building a dance studio on the main base for all your dance practicing needs. (even though he'll be hogging it most of the time.) other than that, he and max are discovering some really cool and potentially dangerous things. bishoujo figures and guns for everyone. yuri's going to be pretty proactive in trying to find clues about getting out of here, so if your character's working on something related to that and needs help, he's your dude!

Sanson is offering to teach people medical knowledge! He's a doctor who specialises in anatomy and physical injuries, so if your character would like to learn how to treat them, he's here for you. He's in the medbay 99% of the time so he would probably be the one treating people's injuries, if they need seen to.
Otherwise he tends to keep to himself so I'm going to plan his stuff based on what other people's doing! I think he's most likely going to accompany Sorey and Mikleo through the lava and do some investigation since he's physically immune to radiation and can phase through things. Hit me up if you'd like to plot!
Zelda wants to build areas to store food and other resources for the animals they have living up on the island! That is very important to her! They need to make sure they take good care of their animal friends! She'd also like to look more into understanding the Song, the Planet's soul, etc etc spiritual mystic things.
Dirk I'm less certain of. He probably wants to build a secondary suit of labs on the island base though. + has to make security on that level is up to scruff! He'd like to look more into setting up shields and other protections.

Details: This is a group effort to give URSULA the Valentine's Day she deserves!
A team of characters will be using the terraformer to make a small, unobtrusive island with as lush a landscape as possible. Some sort of island river will flow through it, and there may even be a skimmer disguised as a swan boat? Once everything is completed, URSULA will be invited to spend a romantic friendlove evening on this mysterious new island! Flower petals, twinkling lights, heart confetti made from natural materials, and a ride down the beautiful River of Romance await! A hodgepodge of traditions will be present, and some of the touches may not be the most authentic - for example, at least one of the Valentine's greetings will ominously read "sorry for your loss" - but this was clearly an effort of love.
After VDay is complete, the island can be repurposed according to URSULA's wishes - as, perhaps, a wildlife reserve/rehab center, or maybe an island where she can exile her ships until they get along.

Details: She's going to interact and try to talk to the Purrpsines in the dreamscape. Since they're migrating, she'll ask about where they're coming from, what they've seen, where they're going, etc. She'll also ask if she can record them when awake.
Mission: Astral Discoveries

HotaruSailor SaturnDetails: Hotaru wants to test the limits of her less destructive powers as Sailor Saturn, so she'll try to astral project across the planet and see how far she can go and what she can discover (underwater and above water because who needs to breathe when you're just a spiritual manifestation), if anything. The anime has shown her spiriting across Tokyo, and I'm fine with keeping her limit at the diameter of Tokyo or even less than that!
Depending on the answers to her conversation with the Purrspines, she'd want to investigate that first. She will also be keeping a keen eye for alien artifact stuff because she definitely wants to do what URSULA asks!
Mission: Astral Mapping

Details: idk if this can be counted as a mission but she'll ask URSULA if she has a map of the planetary and/or star system Iniidae is in, so she can vaguely map it out with her incredibly useful power. Sometimes, you're a nerd and you just want to know where you are in theory even if you don't know it in practice.

Details: Since the Iniidae crew frowns a bit at the slaughter of your enemies, it's time to practice Patamon's oft neglected less violent skills. At Perfect level he has a couple of revelant abilities: one is for straightforward healing and the other is Holy Disinfection which is geared toward fixing "status ailments". (In canon this is used to turn the kids back into humans after they've been... turned into keychains.) It's mostly the first one they'll be using, hitting up some of the islands in search of wounded wildlife to practice healing on. Then they'll see if Holy Disinfection has any effect on individual cases of Carar.

- Sorey and Mikleo do want to get down into the deep lava areas and start searching for the second Precursor base/research facility that's apparently somewhere down there! There's a possibility the Emperor's real world body/the Emperor's kids are hosted at that facility as well.
- More investigation into the Lost River Precursor base files now that we have a way to translate things?
- They're going to be looking into the Precursor base under Mountain Island this month since we didn't have time to fit it into January anywhere! Who else wants in, it looks like there's a lot of interesting stuff there.
- Not exactly homemaking but it seems prudent to go build some kind of scanners at the base entrances now that will pick up if someone's got traces of Jelly Shroom/Carar/otherwise unidentified bacteria sitting on them from a trip out! Also something to decontaminate people if needed. This got discussed with URSULA last month but should be implemented this month.
- Since we have like five million abandoned bases and wrecks and that's hurting Iniidae in the soul they'll put a call out to do something about that! Basically dismantling the big unneeded structures/Aurora wreck pieces to use as resources for other things. If there's some places that aren't really feasible to dismantle (eg. we probably can't take apart items as big as the Monolith or the main Aurora wreck itself, and probably want to leave usefully located pit stops like the Jelly Shroom Caves base intact) then the way to go is repairing them and integrating coral/plants into their structure like the crew's done with the main base. BASICALLY A BIG ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP IS IN ORDER
- They also got the info that the planet awkwardly adopted the Warpers and that the crew really needs to hustle on doing something about the Carar infection on the planet, so they actually need people to resume tinkering with a cure, and also going out and scanning for wildlife that's infected/bringing infected specimens back to hold in the base if they can. Maybe more investigation into nudging the Warpers into more helpful efforts so they can help with that job and start to hold infected fish in the Lost River base like they used to?
Basically they need most of this stuff to be general group/crew efforts since IT'S SO MUCH. I think either Ellie or I are doing an IC post in the next few days to tell people about talking to the planet soul and what followups are needed? So if your character wants in to doing any of these things (either with Sorey and Mikleo or off on their own personal missions) there's an easy IC in for knowledge of what needs doing etc.

hajime found a cave last month that is probably connected to the precursors, so she wants to go back and check it out. there's some door there that's broken so she wants to fix it!! hinata is coming along but if anyone else wants to join in to see what's up then feel free. i don't have any other plans for her besides that tho she'd be interested in the purrspines...
karkat is mostly just focusing on his own personal issues atm? he's still investigating his lil kharaa buddy and is like, taking him around with him (while in his sylladex cause he doesn't want the thing to know where... the base is located...). but yeah other than that i don't really have any plans for him so
i'll throw any of those three into any plot if people want them!! that's it byeee

Otherwise he tends to keep to himself so I'm going to plan his stuff based on what other people's doing! I think he's most likely going to accompany Sorey and Mikleo through the lava and do some investigation since he's physically immune to radiation and can phase through things. Hit me up if you'd like to plot!

Dirk I'm less certain of. He probably wants to build a secondary suit of labs on the island base though. + has to make security on that level is up to scruff! He'd like to look more into setting up shields and other protections.
