Jingle Bells

Christmas is here at last! Tis the season for gift-giving and snow. Snow may be harder to come by, though, but good news! URSULA will be lowering the temperature of the base to 32°F (that would be 0°C) in the evenings to encourage a Christmasy atmosphere.

Reminder that, there will be no AC requirements in December though we will still ask that you check in and, if you can, tell us your activities! We still need to write this post for January after all!

Dreaming of a White Christmas

Given the nature of the game and the very tropical weather involved, we can't exactly make it snow for Christmas. We know you must all be very disappointed. We're so sorry! But we can give you something falling from the sky for the holidays!

That is to say: A spaceship is crashing.

But not just any spaceship. This ship happens to be a Kharaa ship, drawn to the area by the Nostromo's distress beacon just as the Sunbeam was before it. Of course, their reasons were far less friendly than the Sunbeam's. But surely no one around here would trust a Kharaa?

Around noon on the 7th a pulse will ring through the planet. It will temporarily disable any unnatural abilities in crew members as well as life support systems. URSULA will be able to get life support back online within an hour, while powers will come back within a day. What powers and abilities are effected are entirely up to you! Perhaps all of your character's abilities will be disabled, or perhaps none at all. It can also last longer than a day, should it be something you wish to play around with. We leave this choice in players' hands.

The crashed ship will be identified as The Narcissus, which URSULA recognizes as a cargo ship that did military runs. Although her scanners indicate no survivors, she would like to try searching the wreckage anyway.

Naturally, that's where you come in. Check the main mission of the month and see what you can find for Christmas surprises!

Updates!

Some of the updates mentioned here, along with a few others, have been added to the Biome and Base posts. As mods we don't manage the player-run Subnautica discovery document but we encourage everyone to use the document for details that aren't included on the Biome and Base posts.

BIOMES
The Grand Reef has been explored and more spiritual hotspots have been found. A massive hotspot has been found further down this area that has yet to be explored.

A small base has been discovered below the lava vents. It's fairly small in size and it seems to have been used as a research lab. It has been abandoned but it seems as if someone else has recently paid a visit to it in search of something. It is unknown if they found whatever they were looking for.

BASE
A barn has been made on the base island. As of now, it is home to Zelda's Loftwing, but over time it possibly can be expanded if more pets who may not be comfortable living in an underwater base are introduced. That's completely up to the crew! Speaking of the base island, the construction on it is still currently ongoing. Inside the underwater base, the construction of Can Town has begun in the second floor observatory. Crew members are encouraged to help build it.

Some other new additions include cotton candy, more herbs and spices, and a lot of different types of metal that were leftover from Naoko's mission from November. A few other things like a pesticide that a previous crew from another ship used to create the Barren Reef and a mysterious serum that seems to have some connection to the Kharaa has been recovered, but there isn't much known about the latter.

TECH
The new submarine has been completed. This one can reach deeper depths than the other submersibles at the base. The Goggleos have also been created, which are a piece of virtual reality tech that will enable characters who were not able to see Mikleo to now, well, see him. Yay Meebo!

SUNBEAM
A few more exchanges have been made with the Sunbeam, the cargo ship that temporarily orbited the planet for a couple of weeks. They gave some information on ISHMAEL, the Kharaa, the Degasi, and the Nostromo. They also did a few supply drops that included food (both junk and healthy), entertainment such as movies, various equipment and scrap, and also a lot of chalk. They said that they will tell others about the crew being on the planet so that now, the base can expect semi-regular supply drops from ships who happen to be passing by in the area.

KHARAA
Dave Strider has finally informed the rest of the base of the Kharaa presence on Iniidae! If any crew members wish to meet these apparently friendly Kharaa, Dave wants them to speak to Rose Lalonde first so she can use her Seer powers in order to peek into the future to see if it's safe or not. It seems like, for some unknown reason, having a very large group visit the Kharaa may end badly.

According to the Sunbeam, there is a Kharaa ship flying near Iniidae. The crew of the Sunbeam said that the chances of those Kharaa landing on the planet are slim because it doesn't seem like the type of planet they'd be interested in. Let's hope for the best!

HORRORTERRORS
A few crew members have made more progress with the Emperor. They've discovered that the sickness she has is similar to the one that had infected the base, but far more advanced in form. Her antibodies have kept the disease controlled enough as to not kill her, but she's still suffering from it. Some of the crew has helped purify her which has helped somewhat! She also revealed that it was a strange people who had made her and the Dragon immortal. The people wanted to use them as experiments. They have since vanished or died off, and the Emperor has no other information on them.

MEMORIES
Some progress has been made regarding the crew's mysterious arrival to the planet and their altered memories! It has been discovered that buried deep within the crew members' subconscious are memories of drowning and experiencing electric jolts. Once these new memories are remembered, it will feel like the memory of drowning was there all the time and suddenly recalled, similar to when you suddenly remember something you wanted to say or something you were trying to recall earlier. The fake memories will feel more like a dream now, something that came about organically from their own minds. In order to gain these new memories, each crew member will have to go through the process in order to have them invoked. It will be fairly unpleasant!

MAIN MISSION: SALVAGE THE NARCISSUS

• URSULA SAYS:"How unfortunate... I believe last time we retrieved bodies from the Aurora and salvage as well? I suppose needs must. We should once again do what we can here and take whatever we need. I'm only grateful we managed to turn off that signal before anymore came! But why didn't they contact us?"
• REQUIREMENTS: Pretty simple! Just explore the fragmented ship to your heart's content.
• RESULTS: Salvage, goodies and surprises. If there's something in particular you want to find or do with this ship, let us make Christmas miracles happen for you on this ship of dreams! Just tell us what it is.

SIDE MISSION: RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

• URSULA SAYS: "Perhaps with everything that's happened, it might be good to bring some holiday cheer to others! That's perfect. Everyone, please cheer up one random crew member."
• REQUIREMENTS: Just like it says, bring some holiday cheer to others on the base by doing random acts of kindness. Spread the happiness! This can't possibly be awkward. Note that URSULA will help your character with any convenient issues needed. She can break the showers to help you fix them for kindness! Don't worry it totally still counts even if she helps.
• RESULTS: URSULA will be happy and so will someone else probably?

So I totally didn't put this into consideration until just now (just came out of a massive job fog). I'm not sure what varieties Beast Boy has in terms of food selection. With him being vegetarian, he's pretty limited to whatever vegetables or fruits that are available on the base.

This means he's likely missing out on protein. Not sure if the base has any soy protein available. If Beast Boy is able to get creative with his options, that'll help. Plus, he's probably malnourished since he's missing out on. You know. Meat.

Details: She wants to map the digital landscape of Iniidae as she can access it, starting with the network on the base and branching out to whatever devices might be accessible in URSULA's full range, for future travel purposes. She'll be doing this by moving through the network, noting paths and exit points, comparing them to physical maps, then accessing the assumed matches from the outside to verify connections. No exit points will be used from inside until they've been checked from the outside, in the interest of not popping out in the middle of the ocean and dying. Any ?MYSTERY EXITS? will just be left alone for now.

This will be a long-term project (two months, likely more) because shit's complicated and takes time yo.

hajime wiiilll be. well first of all, on the 7th when the pulse rings out and temporarily disables people's powers, it's gonna turn off her note. her note is also her actual soul, that is a thing. SO after everything goes cray hajime is probably just gonna immediately collapse and be like. i don't want to say dead, exactly, but she's gonna be deadish???? and will just be lying around. when she wakes up she'd just be like "lmao that was weird" and continue on with whatever she was doing cause that's how she rolls i'm sorry. this will only last a day. just tuck her in a corner and put a blanket over her it'll be fine.

reyna will. well first of all i once again fucked up the security squad plans that i mentioned in the november ooc post so my bad there. i am going to try it again for december, so i'll be looking at all the people who said they would be interested last month and if anyone wants to join in on that now that will be fine. she'd also be interested in checking out the ship why do i play so many nosy people. she... won't be too bothered by the power thing personally since it won't inconvenience her too much? but she'd be concerned about the power nerfing anyway, even if it's a short period of time and she will probably try to look into that and see if there is a connection to people whose powers got weakened when they arrived to the base.

ROXY will be doing birthday/Christmas things all month including but not limited to making ugly sweaters for all the animals on base (including other pets like the doggos on base + the Magister + etc), and also hanging up mistletoe everywhere especially where it is the most awkward/least convenient. She's also going to be working on medicine for the Emperor with Valentine's help thanks to the efforts of Sorey & Co., otherwise I am up for anything this month!

UNDYNE will be helping Goatdad settle in and will more than likely be looking forward to Christmas shenans too! She's just been busy raising Fuku and getting pissed at Komaeda constantly for who knows what anymore, she just ANGERY + likes to SCREM so who knows. She will also be a fish popsicle for the month, so someone please load her up on sweaters/mittens/hot cocoa and she'll love you forever, albeit violently. OH AND carrying over from last month, she and Frisk found some stuff they'll be sharing on the network shortly, so keep an eye out for that too.

RAVEN will be the only one being effected by the powers outage because I want to give the poor girl the happiest holiday season ever??? she's only been here a few weeks and already she needs a break. So far, no major plans for her this month, just slowly building up CR and eager for more! this will be a good time to get to know her maybe since without her powers she'll be free to feel emotions for the first time in her life, whoops. (her emotions are p intense)

Percy is going to drown. No I'm kidding (sort of) but he is absolutely going to be freaking out about the powers thing because it inconveniences him a whole lot. Whenever he gets his powers back though he'll want to check out the Narcissus/crashed ship.

One of the other things he'd like to do is further explore the underwater tunnel system that's been mentioned to him even if apparently it's a hotbed for viruses. Oh well. Sorry about him...

With the cold weather in the base too one of the other things he'll probably do is create a giant blanketfort for everybody to huddle in if they wish. He'll even (probably find someone to) provide cookies and hot cocoa to get into the holiday spirit.

AND HOLIDAYS. CHRISTMAS. Percy is going to go super-hard for Christmas, probably decorate shit until he gets bored, drag around Homura and force her (and anybody else) into the holiday spirit??? I don't know Percy's a mess, someone help him.

And most importantly Percy will probably be doing anything the demisquad asks him to do...or anyone. He'll be checking in with friends and volunteering himself for missions simply because he's bored and used to this anyway.

A blanket fort sounds super cute! Hotaru would provide hot cocoa and tea, if asked! She'd do cookies, too, but she's much more confident in her drink making abilities.

Also, Hotaru is going to find a herb that can repel reapers for a limited period of time, and she is probably going to ask Percy if he would help because he's friendly and she thinks his skill and ability set would be A+ for this.

Fi this month has a few goals in mind! When the 7th hits, she'll be affected by the power outage - and for her, that means that she's popping from the spirit form everyone knows into her Master Sword form, entering a deep sleep for a while. This means leaving a nice shiny sword out for people to run across and mess with as they please until she wakes up in several days. While Fi will not be conscious of anything that goes on with her vessel, anyone who wants to wave around a sword and generally get into mischief is more than welcome to.

Once she's back from that and the Dreamscape adventure she'll be having in the meantime, she'll want to start organizing to gather up people to take the submarine to the Grand Reef and investigate that giant hotspot like she mentioned last month. When the details are ironed out, she'll send telepathic messages to everyone who wished to join in.

Other than that, her month is open, to help join in salvage or be taught the meaning of Christmas or end up as the stoic faced comic relief in whatever adventures people would like a new companion for. For all her lineface, she's quite curious and ready to ask people questions about things.

Also bonus if someone can get her to wear a sweater or otherwise be festive. Magic makes changing your clothes totally possible.

yo hello! Eon here with Sanson. He's a Servant type of spirit who has a 'spirit sense', so I'd feel like he would keep an eye on Fi in addition to his self-imposed duties as crew doctor. We could probably do something with that, if you're cool with it!

Ami is among the people who are going to get knocked the fuck out by the pulse, so she'll be out of commission briefly there (shit maybe they should all have a dreamscape solidarity huddle?).

After that: her avatar got fixed, so she's good to do adventurey shit and she's going to be exploring the digital networks on Iniidae, which will involve a certain amount of traveling in meatspace that she'll be tagging along with people for.

And besides that I'm keeping options open! There was a bunch of stuff I wanted to get her into last month that didn't pan out because of an attack of the busy.

Sanson is a returnee; he will be taking up his old post at the medbay/resident base doctor if needed. He's a spirit and doesn't sleep, so he will also patrol the base at night and maybe watch you sleep just in case. Fun times.

Due to being afflicted with the shrooms cave disease, he's actually weakened this month and would need to take magical energy/prana from other people in order to stay materialized. I have his intro post here if you'd like to play with that! Once he gets recovered I plan for him to tag along on the scavenge mission to scout around.

Other than that, I'm open to options. He has a dad-ish personality so that might be worth mentioning o/

Jade is going to have to adapt to... walking again? All the time? Like a normal human person? At least for the 24 hours until her powers come back. Also her birthday is in the Homestuck birthday clump!

As for missions, she'll be more than willing to chip in on both missions this month - once her powers are back, she can likely use space powers to move things out of the wreckage more easily (mostly by shrinking things down), and of course Jade is going to try and spread holiday cheer by being nice! Random acts of kindness are the best!

Other than that, Jade is open for any other kind of shenanigans you can think of.

she'll be dragged around by percy this month for christmas shenanigans!! he's such a good pal. she hates this. additionally she'll be going to salvage the ship but i am heavily considering asking if she can find baby grinch dolls on it? so they can just hang around the base? ??? can any of you stop me? maybe. maybe not. it's christmas and they look festive because they are green, ok.

other than that i wanna say i got ill last month and am still kinda ill, so i might continue to be slow this month. but i have a lot of fun things planned this month so :lb let's do everything!!!

Milla is a newcomer so she doesn't know anything about spiritual hotspots or the dreamscape yet, BUT considering Milla is a spirit herself I am super interested in getting her involved with that kind of stuff! The dreamscape would especially ping her since the technology-filled areas of Iniidae show up as scarring and horribleness in said dreamscape, and that would resonate with her TECHNOLOGY KILLING NATURE/SPIRITS feelings. I'm not quiiiite sure how to have her discover this stuff yet, BUT if anyone out there would be willing to have their character introduce her to hotspots/the dreamscape/the concept the planet is sentient and alive, plz let me know. . .!

Otherwise, I do intend to have her join the crew investigating the Narcissus wreckage. Her ability to channel spirits (right now only Undine and Sylph) will be knocked offline thanks to the pulse, but I intend those to come back within a few hours and she'll just be super annoyed about it at the most. She will also probably do some excursions of her own into the wild in an attempt to locate Efreet and Gnome. And while Milla doesn't know anything about Christmas, if she learns about it she'll be super keen on participating and learning all about new human cultural norms. And since I am a big fan of shenanigans in addition to my plot, I hope to have Milla discover and covet some saucy romance novels or admire the wanted post of Yuri in the library.

If anyone else wants to do things unrelated to the stuff above, please feel free to let me know! I'm super open to plotting ;w;/ and also new so anything to get Milla more CR and more settled into Sub's plot would be grand. ♥

I WANT CR WITH MILLA WITH BOTH OF MINE. um Dirk is often floating around on the Dreamscape because he has a splinter problem so if Milla's swimming around the Dreamscape having dream thoughts, Dirk would have no problem explaining the tech/nature explanation? Zelda has been learning about hotspots stuff with Fi mostly for places to help with barrier magic stuff so that's also a hook possibility.

Sorey is going to be mostly fine from powers being disabled and won't actually notice any difference for the brief period of time his are gone \o/ Just, no one freak out and turn into a hellion for that 30 minute period or something. But if your character needs assistance with like, not dying or moving unconscious bodies to safe places HE WILL DO THAT, BECAUSE HE CARES

Other than that the only items on this month's list are:
-Provide everyone with Goggleos so they can see how pretty Mikleo is, aka improving human/seraph relations
-Check ship wreckage (and find Christmas stuff GUARDED BY A REAPER???) and bury any dead bodies, etc.
-Find out what Christmas is and spend most of the month making cute homemade gifts for everyone!!!!

Also deep-diving sub exploration missions as applicable, and most likely sharing Christmas with the Emperor because clearly the planet and its inhabitants should also enjoy such a lovely holiday. I figure the holiday season is a great time for characters to get to know each other better and build up CR so LET'S DO LOTS OF CUTE THINGS

Mikleo is going to be losing all his powers and turning human on the 7th! He is going to have absolutely no idea why he is human and be completely boggled by the experience for the day. SHOULD BE FUN

Sorey mentioned that we're doing a Goggleos post so people will have access to tech they can use to see Mikleo even when there aren't weird alien pulses! He's gonna be so embarrassed and happy.

He's also down for shipwreck explorations and possibly more exploration of the deep areas in the new sub, and possibly introducing people to the weird Void and sea dragon plot stuff if they want in on that, since Fi's got the hotspots and dreamscape covered! Let's all give the horroterrors presents.

OH OH ALSO HE WANTS TO ORGANIZE PRESENTS FOR THE PEOPLE ON MOUNTAIN ISLAND THOUGH

AND MAYBE A SURPRISE FOR URSULA OF SOME KIND??

Ada/Eve are going to be having another Fun Month ahead of them. Ada will be brought down to normal - normal strength and all- and Eve being kicked out of Ada's body and sent to the Dreamscape for a bit. One of the biggest thing that will be happening. After that- Ada will decide maybe it's time to come out clean and explain Ada and Eve's predicament since the twins will now want to build a cyborg body of some sort to transfer Eve other. Just In Case.

After that, Ada will be focusing on her findings of those weird chain of islands from last month, working on installing her suit's camouflage program into the base and machinery the base has, and Eve is going to focus on making all the birthday gifts for everyone ever. If you character hasn't ICly informed Eve of their birthday information/preferences, feel free to fill it up in a post that I'll have linked here in a bit. There'll be a signup sheet of sorts in the library which is how Eve gets the info!

Roderic is actually gonna like this month since it'll give him a real taste of the world being quiet for him outside of the Dreamscape like wow what the hell what is this world around him now. He'll be bummed out when his powers come back but try to keep on trucking by engaging in salvaging the Narcissus and working on the new shield generator 2.0. (Because he's giving the first iteration to Naoko and the gang who may need it more than the base right now. Also because whoops time management it was supposed to be last month.)

For any character that Hotaru hasn't met yet, she'd ask them to fill this out but only if they're comfortable doing so! She'd explain it's so people can seek help for projects directly, if they want it.

Hotaru is going to continue her mission to collect herbs and spices and to plant them on the island part of the base. Of note, she'll be finding an herb that when ingested can repel reapers, but the effect only lasts until it's fully digested. She'll need help figuring out the effects/how it works, etc, but she will eventually tell the base at large about once she figures out the basics. She's also still working on cultivating a flower field to frolic in. I will put up a post for flowers soon!

Oh!! Right. She is going to be asking the Reefbacks and maybe the Angelwings... or any of the other more intelligent creatures for the history of the planet, if anyone wants to join her in that. She'll probably be doing most of that in dreams bc people can communicate better in dreams, but she'll want to record the songs the Reefbacks sing when awake (if they give her permission to do so).

In response to URSULA's body heat meme, she'll be making tea like it's going to save a life, so if your character wants a hot drink at any time, there will always be something. One of the best gifts Hotaru can receive is to be a completely normal girl, and that is what everything depowered on the 7th means for her!! She'll be blissfully ignorant of it, but she'll feel refreshingly.... refreshed! And then she'll be worried as hell about the corpse party going on lmao

She will definitely help explore and salvage things from the Narcissus, and she will do her best to bring holiday cheer doing little things. If you wanna do anything within or out of this scope, I am down!!

Bolin is going to partake of the Narcissus salvage. Need to hash it out with the modly folks, but I'm thinking some terror is in order. Anyone interested in partaking of this mission with him and joining in the potential terror?

Other than that, the memories are going to be pretty important for him to figure out, so he might undergo the method of learning about them if he finds out about it. When he learns about it, he might decide to give it a try against his better judgment if it means figuring out the truth.

Other than that, I am open for just about anything this month!

kicks door down belatedly

Erina has no special powers so she'll be fine after the pulse. She'll only freak out if she comes across anyone dropping dead because of it or something. SHE IS A BABY and still a little hesitant with leaving the underwater base so unfortunately she won't be helping with the salvage, but if you're going she'll offer a packed lunch... yes go bury those bodies well, my children, you better eat that side of vegetables. (Anyone who doesn't is on dishes cleaning duty.)

She also hates the cold but won't cuddle up to anyone because she'll think it's shameless. Hold her hand first. But don't do that either she'll scream--I'm sorry this girl is a mess.

As for Christmas she's gonna be The Grinch compared to like... everyone else. Catch her walking around the base to awkwardly watch what others are doing because she's adjusting to being a "normal girl" aka not being stressed with seven thousand scheduled appointments and schoolwork.

tl;dr she's going to be a friendless loser in her own cooking world but is anyone surprised
